Why Do Christians Want the Rest of the World to Think and Believe the Same as Them? Part II

From a comment on a Christian blog: “Why does it matter so much to Christians that the rest of the world think and believe the same as them? I don't understand it.” The short answer to this question is this; the Christian does not necessarily want you to think and believe like him. He wants you to think and believe the same as God. Every honest Christian would have to admit that he does not always think like God thinks, therefore he should not want you to think like himself where he does not think like God. However in as much as the Christian thinks like God he is going to want you to think and believe the same as he.

At a deeper level the Christian merely wants the rest of the world to be honest with themselves. You see, the Christian believes the Bible to be the revealed Word of God. Therefore, he believes what the Bible says. God has revealed in Romans chapter 1 verse 19 that all people know God, “for God hath showed it unto them.” Romans chapter 1 goes on to say that people have suppressed the knowledge of God that is within them.

Putting aside the question of the truth of the Bible for a moment, most of you would agree with most Christians that self-deception is a harmful attitude. If you understand that Christians believe that the Bible says that the rest of world is suppressing God given knowledge of Himself it should now be clear why they want the “rest of the world [to] think and believe the same as them.” They simply want the rest of the world to stop deceiving themselves.

This revelation may not cause you to admit that the God of the Bible is real, and that His Word is true. You may not like the fact that Christians believe that everyone really believes that the God of the Bible is real. However, knowing that they truly believe this you should no longer be able to say “I don't understand it.” Christians would not be true to their belief if they did not want “the rest of the world [to] think and believe the same as them.”
