Why Do Christians Want the Rest of the World to Think and Believe the Same as Them?

Why does it matter so much to Christians that the rest of the world think and believe the same as them? I don't understand it.” If you have attempted to engage the culture for Christ you have heard or read something akin to this at one time or another – the above is a quote from a comment box on a Christian Blog. That is a question that deserves an honest answer, but the question seems to assume that no one else wants “the rest of the world (to) think and believe the same as them.” That simply is not the case. Everyone wants the rest of the world to believe as they do on at least one point; even if that one point is that no one should expect the rest of world to think and believe what they believe.
The short answer to this question is this; the Christian does not necessarily want you to think and believe like him. He wants you to think and believe the same as God. Every honest Christian would have to admit that he does not always think like God thinks, therefore he would not want you to think like himself where he does not think like God. However inasmuch as the Christian thinks like God he is going to want you to think and believe the same.
Stop for a minute and think about this. The Christian believes that the God of the Bible truly exists, that He is the one true and living God, and He has revealed Himself, truthfully, in the pages of scripture. Therefore it would be illogical for the Christian to accept the view that everyone's opinion is equally valid. Because, if there is a true and living God who designed everything, then those opinions that are contrary to His cannot be true. If an opinion is not true it is harmful. The question then becomes, why are there any Christians who do not want the rest of the world to think and believe the same as they?
You may believe in the doctrine that whatever you believe is true for you and whatever another believes is true for him. That is a polite way of saying “Christian, you are wrong.” Because what you have said is that there isn't really one true and living God. He only exists in the mind of those who believe that there is one true and living God. Whether you want to think and believe like the God of the Bible or not, you should now be able to understand why the Christian wants the rest of the world to think and believe like Him. Like you, the Christian wants the rest of the world to think and believe truth.

mr

yes this does explain things for me thankyou. i have been going to church with a woman whom i adore. she is a christian. i do enjoy going with her but i would not go alone. this bothers her. it is a shame that this should bother her. i would want her to be happy that i look forward to attending church with her. but i do now understand that my beliefs are contrary to her beliefs and that becoming close to me would pose a possibility of contrary influence. she does read the bible every night. so she is very committed. anyway she canceled church with me tomorrow. now i am thinking she wants to go without me. as i did make it clear to her earlier this week i only go to church to be with her. such a shame

My Two Cents

Because we are concerned for the welfare of your eternal soul, and your ability to live free from the chains of sin while on earth. Our religion compels us to share the good news of the gospel, out of love-induced obedience to God. Love for God, and Love for others. Sin is not safe, but god has provide a way, one way and only one, his son Jesus Christ. We must live lives of obedience, following God's commands.
