Proposition 8 is Ruled Unconstitutional, is God Judging America?

You are sure to hear Christians say that God is going to judge America because of the California Court ruling Proposition 8 unconstitutional. They have that wrong. That opinion comes from taking Romans 1:26 – 28 out of context. If you will start at verse 18 of chapter one of the book of Romans you will notice that the sin in question is a denial of the one true God, who revealed Himself in the hearts of men. They then set themselves up above the true and living God, and then “God gave them up to their hearts lusts...” So you see God is not going to judge America for accepting homosexuality; the acceptance of homosexuality is God's judgment on America-- judgment for denying Him and setting man on the throne of sovereignty over God.

Proposition 8 is overturned and America has been “delivered up to a reprobate mind...” Does that mean that there is no hope left for America? When God pours out His judgment on a people, He does so in order to get their attention. Those who find homosexuality reprehensible have two choices as they see God giving their land over to Satan; they can rail and wring their hands over the despicable state to which their nation has degenerated, or they can lift their head up to the heavens and repent of their sins, and give themselves over to the will of the King of Kings.

Any number of sins could be listed here. Many of the sins that Christians need to mortify are readily evident. However, because they have become too busy to study scripture many Christians are overlooking idolatry in their life because, like the frog in the water, they have grown accustomed to the slow degeneration of American society without even realizing that they have grown accustomed to sin. Christians can recognize that just because abortion is legal that does not make it moral. The outcry against California over Proposition 8 indicates that they understand that just because homosexuality is legal does not make it moral. How is it that they do not understand that just because theft was made legal that does not make it moral? Theft, you ask? Do you not recognize that when you use your government to force your neighbor to pay for something that you are using, it is legalized theft?

It is no surprise when unregenerate sinners deny God and worship the creation instead of the creator. What must really cause God pain is when His people turn to other gods for provision. Speaking to His disciples in Matthew 6:25 – 34 Jesus declares that they need not be concerned about their sustenance. Seek after the kingdom of God and all your needs will be met.

You have not seen the end of this battle in the courts, but for now Proposition 8 has been overturned; God is judging America. Is that because homosexuals want to change the definition of marriage to include what God calls reprobate? No, God is turning this nation over to a reprobate mind because too many who call themselves by the name of Christ have denied God as God, and has asked the state to stand in His stead. God is not going to judge America because society is accepting homosexuality as an acceptable alternative life style. The acceptance of homosexuality is God's judgment on America, because “His people” are worshiping the creation instead of the creator.
