Product review: Xpress RediSetGo
The Xpress Redi Set Go is an indoor electric cooker, an updated version of GT Xpress 101 electric cooker, both “As Seen on TV” products. The infomercial claims that with the Xpress RediSetGo you can make quick, simple, healthy meals in minutes. Watching the infomercial is enough to make your mouth water. Cathy Mitchell drives it home with delicious looking dishes that you can almost smell. Could it really be that good? My Xpress RediSetGo was delivered quickly and just in time for lunch! It comes with two insertable pans that are handy for serving and are dishwasher safe. It also comes with a special spatula designed to fit the cooker and a “meals in minutes” recipe book and a “bonus” recipes pamphlet. So off to the store I went to pick up the ingredients I needed to put this pretty red cooker to the test! The first recipe I tried with the help of my 11 year old son, who had visions of effortless pizza snacks like he saw on the infomercial! We used the recipe that calls for making your own dough for the crust. (There is another recipe that uses pita bread for the crust.) We plugged in the cooker and turned it on to warm up while we prepared our toppings. The Xpress RediSetGo heated up very fast and we began the frustrating process of getting the dough spread out onto the cooker’s surface. Finally, our not-so-even, holey dough was ready for the toppings. (I’m sure I will try it with the pita bread next time!) We closed the lid on the pizza, set the simple, but very cool timer, and waited anxiously! The instructions said to cook for 7 minutes, so we took their word for it and 7 minutes later, we opened the lid to a perfectly cooked, personal size pizza! The cheese was melted but not burned, and the crust was perfect as well (except for those holes!) Most importantly, it passed the 11 year old boy, I live for pizza, taste test. I made my pizza next and one of the great things about the personal pizza is that we were each able to put our own favorite toppings on. Mine was delicious too and cleaning up was a breeze. The messy melted cheese wiped right out with ease. I give the pizza recipe a happy thumbs-up and the cooker performed to perfection. Now we were ready for some dessert and decided on the “pineapple outside-in cake”. This recipe was simple and quick, taking only 9 minutes to cook. Tasty too! We also cooked omelets, grilled sandwiches, corn dogs, crispy baked potatoes with cheese, bacon bits and other toppings (delicious!) and are decidedly sold on the Xpress RediSetGo! It’s a very efficient little cooker featuring a floating lid that allows the food to rise while cooking and since the top and bottom of the cooker heat up, it really does cut down on cooking time. Also a great energy saver compared to heating up the oven to bake a cake. The extra removeable pans that I purchased separately allow you to be very creative especially considering the Xpress RediSetGo’s versatility allowing you to cook, bake, grill and steam. The cooker’s size makes for easy storage and I think you will agree that this cooker is perfect if you’re cooking for one or two. I highly recommend the Xpress RediSetGo…now I’m off to find more things to try in my little red cooker. I’m sure you will be able to come up with your own creative dishes too!
