God is not a Good American; God will not Allow Religious Pluralism

In an effort to manufacture unity out of the disunity of thought in America a doctrine of tolerance, which regards all ideas equally, has been taught through the government schools, media, and other government institutions. They have labeled many sins as either disease or as an acceptable alternative to the Biblical norms that this culture grew up on. This effort has achieved much success. However, many Americans still cling to traditional taboos, some out of conviction, based on a belief in the Bible, others just because this tolerance can never be seen as universal. Even among the most tolerant, violence against other creatures, whether human or animal, is still viewed as evil by most. There is one area that this egalitarian view of tolerance has gained almost universal acceptance outside of the most stringent of orthodox Christian circles. That is in the area of religion.

Most Americans have bought into the idea that it does not matter which religion you follow. The mantra goes something like this: “we're all worshiping the same God.” This attitude is so pervasive that many who consider themselves a Christian have accepted the doctrine of pluralism.

As it is with many major doctrines held by Americans today, God misses the mark on this one. God says, “Thou shalt not have any other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3). Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the father, but by me.” (John 14:6). It is when He describes the consequences of choosing to serve some other god over Him that God really gets in trouble with 21st century Americans. When Jesus talks about separating the sheep from the goats, He tells the goats, “depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Matthew 25:41). Americans won't stand for this. After all the reason for pluralism in the first place is so that no one will have to go to hell.

You can eject God from your circle of pluralism, but you still have a problem. Myriads of irreconcilable differences within the religions of the world. Pluralism can only be made plausible by throwing out the laws of logic. Many religions teach something akin to thou shalt not kill, while some require human sacrifice to the gods. Some hold animal life to be sacred, while others use animals for sacrifice. Religious Humanism believes that the universe is self existent, while other religions believe in a creator. If you would study the religions of the world you could create an almost endless list of these irreconcilable differences. The point is, you must be a schizophrenic in order to believe in pluralism.

In the case of American pluralism versus the God of Christianity the verdict is: God is not an American. On the other hand, God is not woefully ignorant of the irreconcilable differences within the religions of the world. Since God is logic (John 1:1, the Greek word for “word” here is Logos, from which the word logic is derived), He is not willing to throw logic to the wind. Pluralism is an attempt by man to have dominion over God. Good luck with that one!
