The Convoluted Justice in the Case of George Tiller's Killer, Scott Roeder

The American justice system got it wrong once again.  Scott Roeder, the man who killed the abortion doctor, George Tiller, was sentenced to life in prison, without parole on April 1.  Because the American “justice” system has been perverted from the infallible standard of justice revealed in the Bible, this case is convoluted.  However, if you can wade through some of the problems with this case you can see some of the major problems with justice in America.

Although Scott Roeder believed that he was protecting unborn babies by killing George Tiller, he was operating outside God-given authority by taking Dr. Tiller's life.  Therefore Scott Roeder is guilty of murder.  His act took place in front of more than two witnesses, some of which testified to witnessing him perform the murder that he was accused of.  By virtue of these facts, based on the Biblical standards of justice Scott Roeder should have received the death penalty from the state.  A weak “justice” system got this wrong.

Based on Biblical precepts there can be no justification for the act of murder.  That presents the next problem with the American justice system, and a point that illustrates how veering from the infallible standard causes confusion in the minds of otherwise just people.  There are many, who rejoiced at the the death of George Tiller at the hands of a murderer.  This should never be.  Just men should never rejoice over evil.

On the other hand, had the state fulfilled its God-given role as the hand of justice in the American culture, there never would have been the opportunity for an individual to carry out such a murder.  Referring once again to Biblical justice, the state should have tried and convicted George Tiller for murder many years ago.  By virtue of the fact that there have been more than two witnesses to Dr. Tiller's numerous murders, it would not have been difficult to find more than two that would testify to witnessing this evil behavior.  Therefore George Tiller should have received the death penalty through the justice system many years ago.

Christians must do everything within the bounds of Biblical law to protect the unborn from the murderous acts of the likes of George Tiller.  Murder, however, can never be a tool in the Christian's arsenal against this great evil.  God has ordained civil magistrates, and endowed them with the authority to administer the death penalty to men who, for what ever reason, are found killing these precious young babies.  Christians who have been placed in positions of civil authority should accept this authority from God, and use the justice system to prevent opportunities for other men, like Scott Roeder, from perpetrating their evil on society, by ridding society of those who are perpetrating the even greater evil of murdering several babies most every day of their life.
